For those who love music festivals, it doesn’t get much better than Lollapalooza. Lollapalooza will be coming to Chicago’s Grant Park from August 3–6. This popular music event allows you to see more than 170 bands. Given that this event is held during the hottest time of the year, it’s important to follow safety precautions so you don’t have to rush to the hospital and miss your favorite performers.

A combination of sun and alcohol can make for a disastrous situation – not just for you but for others around you as well. Our Chicago premises liability lawyers at Staver Accident Injury Lawyers, P.C. offer these tips to help you stay healthy and safe while enjoying the extended weekend outdoors at Lollapalooza.

If you’re injured due to someone else’s negligence or recklessness, contact us right away at (312) 236-2900.

Lollapalooza Safety Tips

Stay safe and healthy throughout this four-day music festival with these helpful tips:

  • Drink plenty of water. Being outdoors in the hot summer sun will quickly dehydrate you. You can bring two bottles of water inside the festival each day, so take advantage of this rule. The excitement of the event can make you forget you’re thirsty, but try to drink water at regular intervals throughout the day.
  • Drink alcohol in moderation. You’re there to enjoy the music, not get sick. Many Lollapalooza concertgoers end up in the hospital after drinking too much. Don’t be one of those people. If you decide to drink, space out your drinks so you can enjoy them throughout the day without getting intoxicated.
  • Be alert. Ditch the headphones and be aware of your surroundings. With so many people in attendance, you’re bound to come across fights, rowdy people, or other situations that make you uncomfortable. Trust your instincts. If it’s a dangerous situation, let authorities know. Otherwise, walk away and move somewhere where you feel more comfortable.
  • Don’t become a robbery victim. Lollapalooza is not the time or place to show off your expensive jewelry or purse. Leave these items and other valuables at home. Keep credit cards and cash with you in a front pocket. Carry just enough money for food – no need to bring hundreds of dollars that can potentially be stolen.
  • Don’t get burned. Sunscreen is a must. Cover all exposed skin with sunscreen rated SPF 30 or higher. Reapply at least every couple hours. Protect your eyes and head with sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat.
  • Rest when needed. With eight stages and dozens of bands performing daily, you’re bound to get tired. Exhaustion and heat don’t mix, so avoid overdoing it. Don’t try to see or do everything. Focus on the bands you absolutely want to see. In between sets, rest in the shade.

Were you Injured at Lollapalooza?

Many concert venues and promoters do their best to remove themselves from liability for any incidents occurring during events. However, if reckless or gross negligence on behalf of the venue – such as a lack of security – caused you to suffer serious injuries, you may have a viable claim for compensation for your losses.
